MDT-48 makes Eddie sharper, richer, and more successful—but it also enslaves him. Glynn uses the drug as an allegory for modern society’s obsession with self-improvement, productivity, and performance enhancement. The Eddie in The Dark Fields is not as immediately sympathetic as the film’s Eddie Morra. His addiction to MDT-48 leads to more severe moral decay.
