A standard Kali Linux ISO or VM image can be several gigabytes in size. A highly compressed image uses advanced compression algorithms (such as .7z or .rar rather than standard .zip or .tar.gz ) to shrink the file size by 50% to 80%. These images are typically provided in two formats:
