As the siblings are forced to work together to survive, they face a series of perilous challenges. With each turn of the game, they encounter a hostile and malfunctioning robot, a relentless band of reptilian aliens known as the Zorgons, and a mysterious Astronaut (played by Dax Shepard) who appears to help them but has his own secrets. The core of the film is the journey of the two brothers learning to cooperate, trust each other, and ultimately wishing to return home. Together, they must navigate the dangers of the game to reach the fabled planet Zathura and reverse the chaos.
